Many online services require Canadians to create a unique username and password, on top of sharing personal information to verify their identities in a process that can take days or even weeks. Verified.Me is the digital alternative to this often lengthy process, as it helps verify a user’s identity online by leveraging personal information they consent to share from a trusted connection, like a financial institution.
In an increasingly digital world, we recognize that Canadians want convenient, real-time access to digital government services with assurance their personal information will remain private and secure, and Verified.Me does just that.
Canadians registering for a My Service Canada Account can now select Verified.Me to help verify their digital identity using the personal information they consent to share from one of the six major financial institutions in Canada – BMO, CIBC, Desjardins, RBC, Scotiabank or TD. Canadians who bank with one of these network participants can use Verified.Me to verify their identities in real-time, giving users greater control over when and how they share their information.
Built on the idea of putting Canadians in control of their own sensitive personal information, Verified.Me has no access to users’ banking information or the credentials used to log in to banks. This digital identity verification service works to give Canadians peace of mind when registering for online government services.
As with all technology, we are constantly working to expand services and look forward to onboarding other financial institutions to the network of participants in an effort to increase accessibility of Verified.Me to more Canadians.
