It’s that time of year again—tax season. Some people can hardly wait to file—ready for refunds that will subsidize a new wardrobe or pay off the car loan; for others, filing is about as anticipated as a root canal, and put off until the last moment in April. But whether you’re an early filer or a procrastinator, tax season can quickly turn into a headache if you can’t figure out how to log-in to your existing accounts or locate the information needed to file.
That’s why this year, SecureKey is teaming up with the Government of Canada and some of Canada’s largest financial institution partners that are participating into the SecureKey Concierge™ service, to answer common questions, dispel common myths, and help make filing as easy and accessible as possible.
We’re calling it the “Did You Know?” campaign.
What is the point of “Did You Know?”
Studies show that as many as 66 percent of Canadians forget passwords for sites they don’t visit regularly, and three out of four admit they use the same passwords across multiple sites, many of which have not been changed in five or more years. With cybercrime on the rise, it’s more important than ever that citizens be able to access their e-gov services easily and securely—without creating yet another soon-to-be-forgotten username and password or jeopardizing their personal information.
“Did You Know” is an effort to educate citizens about some of the ways that they can more easily access e-gov services and ensure that their data is protected.
For instance: Did You Know that you can check your Old Age Security (OAS) Benefits, access your Canada Pension Plan (CCP), and/or view your RRSP information, all using your bank log-in?
With services hosted on the Government of Canada’s platforms, current sign-in partners include:
- Caisse Populaire Acadienes
- Choice Rewards Master Card
- RBC Royal Bank
- Tangerine Bank
- TD Canada Trust
How Does Single Sign-On Work?
Through our SecureKey Concierge service, we are providing citizens with the ability to sign in to more than 80 federal e-gov services using the bank log-in credentials they already have. Just visit the e-gov site you wish to access, and log-in with your banking credentials! A triple-blind approach ensures that no personal information is ever shared between your bank and the services you access.
