Charles Walton – CEO
Charlie brings more than 30 years of experience in the information security industry to his role as chief executive officer of SecureKey. He previously served as chief operations officer and general manager for INSIDE Secure’s NFC and payments businesses, where he defined business strategy, drove product strategy and development, and led the launch of new contactless and NFC chip products.
Prior to INSIDE, Charlie founded Caradas, which developed digital identity and authentication management software and was acquired by Diversinet. He also served as chief operations officer for Diversinet; co-founded the CyberTrust business at GTE; and worked in GTE Government Systems, focusing on development of large-scale secure communication systems for defense customers.
Charlie earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer and Systems Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Greg Wolfond – Chairman
Greg has a successful track record of bringing innovative solutions to the financial industry. In 1997 Greg co-founded 724 Solutions Inc., a wireless software infrastructure provider. He served as the company’s chief executive officer and led its IPO in 2000.
In 1983 he founded Footprint Software Inc., a financial software company, which he sold to IBM in 1995. While at Footprint Software, Greg won the 1994 award for Canada’s Best Managed Private Company. In 1995 he won the award for Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 and in 2000 was named Entrepreneur of the Year.
Greg holds a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science from the University of Western Ontario and a double major, Biochemistry and Life Sciences from the University of Toronto. He sits on the boards of the Ontario Cancer Biomarker Network (OCBN); NoNo Inc., a company specializing in post stroke neuroprotection; and YYZ Pharmatech, which develops tools, targets, and biomarkers for pharmaceutical companies.
Jaime Shapiro – President
Jaime leads SecureKey’s financial, legal, human resources, and corporate development activities. He brings SecureKey 20 years of experience as an executive, venture investor, and strategy consultant with a focus on financial services-related technologies. Prior to SecureKey, he developed businesses, serving as president of Blue Sky Capital; executed M&A and strategic investment transactions as vice president of corporate development at 724 Solutions Inc.; and advised leading banks and insurance companies as a member of A.T. Kearney’s NYC-based financial institutions group.
Jaime graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Mathematics from Harvard University and earned an MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was recognized as a Palmer Scholar.
Andre Boysen – EVP Marketing
Andre is responsible for positioning SecureKey’s growth strategy, cultivating opportunities in new and existing markets, and promoting demand for the company’s solutions globally. He serves as SecureKey’s digital identity evangelist.
Prior to joining SecureKey, Andre co-founded and served as chief technology officer of 724 Solutions Inc. Previously, he served as chief technology officer for Footprint Software and as chief executive officer for the company’s Asia Pacific business. In 1999, he was named one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 in recognition of his vision and accomplishments. From 1990 to 1994, he served as chief executive officer of Open Systems Limited. Andre has also served on the boards of 724 Solutions Inc., Dexit Inc., Footprint Software Pty. Ltd., and 305 Management Services.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from the University of Ottawa, an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business, and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education from the University of Maine at Presque Isle. He currently lectures at Wilfred Laurier’s Schlegel Entrepreneurship Centre.
Robert Blumenthal – EVP, Business Development
Robert is a senior executive with more than 25 years of experience in telecommunications and technology marketing, business development, and product strategy. Robert has responsibility for developing new business and partnership opportunities globally, and oversees the company’s activities in the telecom sector.
Prior to SecureKey, Robert served as president of Virgin Mobile Canada, transforming the company into an innovative full-service provider of mobile services with strong national distribution. He served previously as chief executive officer of Digit Wireless, a user interface technology licensing firm; senior vice president of products and services at TELUS; and vice president at Clearnet, an early PCS entrant that was acquired by TELUS. Earlier in his career, he worked on product and technology strategy at Bell–Northern Research.
Robert earned a Bachelor’s degree with Honours and a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from McGill University and a Diploma in Marketing from the University of Western Ontario’s Ivey School of Business. He sits on a number of advisory boards, providing expertise in technology and consumer marketing.
Hugh Cumming – EVP, Technology & Operations
Hugh brings 20 years of executive management success to SecureKey, with experience leading global IT, operations, and software development teams in the financial services, wireless, and BPO industries. Prior to SecureKey, Hugh served in numerous executive capacities, including chief information officer at the Co-operators and chief information officer for ADP Canada, where he was responsible for building and running ADP’s payroll and HR SAAS products and data processing infrastructure.
Previously, Hugh co-founded and served as chief technology officer at WebHelp, an early pioneer in eCRM. He served as senior vice president of product development and chief technology officer at 724 Solutions Inc. He also held numerous senior positions in technology architecture and software development at SITEL Canada and Europe, IBM, and EcoLab Ltd.
Hugh earned a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from the University of Toronto.
Kathy Stares – EVP, Sales
Kathy brings 15 years of business development, sales, brand management execution, and executive experience to her role at SecureKey. Previously, she served as General Manager in Canada and Vice President of North American Financial Services for FICO International. In this capacity, she led double-digit growth in sales and managed the company’s Canadian financial institutional clients. Prior to this, she directed development of online authentication and decisioning solutions as senior director for TransUnion Canada. Her previous experience in program and brand management, customer service, and channel program delivery gives her unique insight into a wide range of security, online transaction, technology, and customer service environments in financial services organizations. Kathy earned a BA from the University of Toronto and a certificate as a Woman of Influence in 2010.
